The Primary students of Seth Anandram Jaipuria View The Movie ‘Matilda’

Every student has a unique learning style. Sometimes auditory learning or learning through reading doesn’t come easily to students. Movies are a great source for visual learners because, unlike books, movies allow students insight into the lives of different characters, how their perspective differs and how they handle certain situations. Films can show how different people, in different parts of the world, live their lives. On 7th April, the students of grades 3-5 were shown the movie, ‘Matilda’ during the hobby period,a film that deals with the theme of bullying, relationships and kindness.
The students of Grade 3-C thoroughly enjoyed the movie. The children got connected with the protagonist, ‘Matilda’ instantly. Smiles were seen on the faces of the kids when Matilda was happy. Some even gave ideas as to what she could do to convince her parents. Samarth Singh after seeing Ms. Trunchbull’s character spoke that he was thankful to God for giving him such a wonderful school with such a humble and kind Principal and Headmistress.
The children also compared the teacher, ‘Miss Honey’ to all the teachers of Seth Anandram Jaipuria School and expressed their love for each one of them. The classroom turned into a movie theatre where one could see all the emotions, be it excitement, furor, tumult, and even resentment.
During and after the movie was over, the children were asked questions related to the characters, their role, the behavior of Matilda’s parents, her brother towards her, and the behavior of Ms. Trunchbull and Miss Honey. Also, after the movie the Elements of the story were discussed, the children talked about the characters, settings, problem, solution, and theme along with the importance of books in one’s life. In the end, the students were asked to draw the characters of the movie. Some of them drew Matilda, a few of them drew all the characters whilesome others drew the settings. It was a lovely experience and it was so heart-touching when the kids talked about the rights and the wrongs shown in the movie.
