An Educational Trip to the Residency, Lucknow

The Primary Students od Seth Anandram Jaipuria Visit the Historical Monument Residency

“The sanctity of our battlefields, monuments, and veterans institutions is of utmost importance to preserve military History and pay respect to those who fought.

Moving beyond classroom learning, Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Lucknow organised an educational trip to the Residency, Lucknow for Grade 5 students. The students were made aware of the significance and the historical importance of the city’s iconic monument which is associated with the country’s First War of Independence that later got documented in the golden pages of History, forever.

The students toured the remains and witnessed the shattered walls still scarred by bullets and cannon shots and saw a stockpile of weapons displayed on the premises. They were astonished to see the magnificent Baillie Guard Gate, the architecture of Treasury House, and Doctor Fayer’s building with a cellar. The children were taken to the adjoining present-day museum proudly showcasing the lithographs, paintings and photographs of the era. The kids were excited to explore the other parts of the historic monument and delve into the past. Further, they were  shown the ruined building of the church and cemetery where Sir Henry Lawerence rests  in peace. The children could feel  the pain of the seige after having a glimpse of the monument and it’s walls bleeding with the stories of the event that took place within the enclosure.

The trip provided an enriching experience to the students. The place is certainly a must  for history lovers and we also linked Math  topics like measurement and estimation  to the excursion.  They also had a chance to interact with some overseas tourists and exchange thoughts on the rich culture and heritage of each other’s countries. The kids were confident and thrilled to share the fascinating details of our culture and the revolt of 1875 and were equally engrossed and curious to know more about their culture. They asked the French natives to share the story of the French Revolution. Such trips area perfect opportunity for interdisciplinary learning. It was surely an exhilarating and hands-on learning experience for the students.
